I start out this month’s letter with some disturbing news out of Countryside. The village adopted mandatory fire sprinklers for all new home construction. Unfortunately, your HBA was contacted about this impending vote a little too late to try and stop it. The Village of Crest Hill adopted the same mandate back in 2009 and rescinded the ordinance in 2015. The reason, no new homes being built in Crest Hill for seven years. I’m not going to argue the reasons to be against fire sprinklers in new homes, that’s been debated for years and we don’t have enough space in this column. But Countryside will learn the hard way and I guarantee you that they will rescind this ordinance in the future when their new home construction comes to grinding halt! I just hope none of our members aren’t seriously affected by this anti-growth, pro fire sprinkler lobby. If you hear of any such proposals in your communities, PLEASE contact the HBA office so we can get some people on it. We can’t guarantee to stop anti-building laws, but your government affairs committee can sure try.
Fighting anti-growth legislation is another thing that your membership dues are paying for. This is also a good tool to promote new membership. It’s your organization get INVOLVED!
Our February GMM was a success with speaker Pat Rea. His economic insights are always interesting, but I especially found his connections with different leaders from around the world especially fascinating. Pat always draws a nice crowd.
There will be an OSHA seminar on March 24, at Ruffled Feathers in Lemont. It should be informative and reservations can be made by call the office.
Our Harrah’s Kentucky Derby Raffle party is coming up on Friday April 15th. Everyone should have received their tickets in the mail. Only $75.00 again this year for dinner, open bar, and a chance to win $2500.00!! There will be games again and few vendors too. This is one of our biggest fundraisers of the year and I encourage you to sell your tickets or buy them yourself for a great night of fun. We also have a contest for $100 prize on who sells the most tickets. Since yours truly typically sells the most tickets, we are going to do something different this year. Whoever sells half the number of tickets that I sell, will win the $100 prize. Also whoever sells the winning raffle ticket will win $100.
You don’t have to be a HBA member to come out for the party. This is a perfect night to invite friends, family, co-workers or employees out to a fun night. And don’t forget it’s at Harrah’s Casino, so some of you might want to try your luck at gambling too!
I would also like to send a special shout out to Southwest Fireplace for taking the Season Ticket Holder Sponsorship for 2016! Thank you for your continued support!
March is also spring training for baseball and the beginning of spring. Enjoy the warmer upcoming weather everyone and go Sox!!
